Our take
Two heads, one pole
Switching between the saw and the trimmer is how this tool earns its place. The pole saw has a 20 cm bar running at 8 m/s, with an automatic oiler that keeps the chain lubricated without you checking it each time. The hedge head uses dual action blades, where both blades move together, which Greenworks says gives cleaner and faster cuts.
The split shaft design also means the tool packs down smaller for storage than a single long pole.
Reach and the shoulder strap
Up to 2.4 m of reach is listed, which brings the tops of most garden hedges and many lower tree limbs within range from the ground. A shoulder strap is included to take some of the load. The listing gives a weight of 7.5 kg, which seems to cover both tools in the box, so the assembled trimmer should be lighter in your hands.
A note on branch size
The specs list an 18 mm cutting width, but a bullet advises against cutting branches over 15 mm with the trimmer and offers an upgraded replacement blade if one breaks. Take the lower figure as your working limit and use the saw head for anything thicker.

Buy the G40PSH if you already have Greenworks 40V batteries and want one tool for hedge tops and overhanging branches. Keep the trimmer to stems under 15 mm. If your hedges are thick and woody, the Bosch GHE 18V-50 TP is stronger on capacity, and if you want a battery included, the Ryobi OPT1845 kit is ready out of the box.
