Our take

Small deck, light frame

Ryobi lists the weight at 7.7 kg without a battery, which is very light for a mower with a grass box. A 33 cm deck is easy to push around beds and through narrow gates, and all terrain wheels are mentioned. The handle is telescopic with three positions and folds or comes off for storage.

The specs also show a higher figure of 10.3 kg, which may include packaging, so treat the 7.7 kg as the bare machine.

Mulching and edges

A mulching plug is included, so you can switch from collecting into the 35 litre bag to returning clippings to the lawn. Five cutting heights from 25 to 65 mm cover normal garden use.

EasyEdge grass combs on the deck are designed to lift grass at the edge so the blade can reach it, which reduces the strimming needed afterwards.

Battery and coverage

Ryobi says a single 18V ONE+ 5.0 Ah battery covers up to 250 m². Smaller packs will cover less. The ONE+ range runs to over 100 tools on the same battery, according to the listing, so the pack you buy for this mower can also run a strimmer, blower or hedge trimmer.

Who should look elsewhere

If you have no ONE+ batteries, a complete kit is better value in effort and setup. The Yard Force LM G37A arrives with two batteries, a mulching plug and a rear roller. If your lawn is bigger than about 250 m², the Greenworks G40LM41 with a 4 Ah battery covers up to 500 m². Anyone with a sloping or bumpy lawn should also note that a light, narrow mower is easy to steer but will take more passes than a wider deck. On a small, flat lawn that trade hardly matters, which is where this mower makes most sense.

Verdict

The OLM1833B body only is a neat buy for small lawns when you already own Ryobi ONE+ batteries and a charger. It is light, mulches and gets close to edges. Newcomers should choose a kit such as the Yard Force LM G37A, and owners of medium lawns will find the Greenworks G40LM41 covers more ground.
