The Harrier 41 VS is the smaller of the two cordless Harriers in our rear roller guide. It keeps the features that define the range: a self-propelled drive, a two-piece ribbed rear roller, an aluminium deck and Trim Side edge cutting. It comes with a 60V 6.0 Ah battery and a 2 A charger. It is aimed at owners of medium lawns who care about a striped finish and want the mower to do the pushing.

In its favour

  • Same two-piece ribbed rear roller and Trim Side edge cutting as the larger Harrier.
  • At a listed 35 kg it is lighter than the Harrier 48 AD while still self-propelled.
  • The listing states a lifetime warranty against cracking or breaking of the aluminium deck.

Good to know

  • The listing gives no cutting width figure, only the model name.
  • No run time or lawn size per charge is stated for the 6.0 Ah battery.

Our take

The roller and the finish

Hayter fits a two-piece ribbed rear roller. Splitting the roller lets each half turn at its own speed on corners, which the listing says helps avoid marking the turf, and the ribs add grip. A full width roller is also what lays the grass over in stripes.

Trim Side deck design is meant to let you cut right up to borders, raised beds and retaining walls, cutting down on edge trimming.

Drive, deck and cutting heights

Being self-propelled, the mower moves itself forward while you walk and steer. The deck is aluminium, and Hayter offers a lifetime warranty against cracking or breaking of the deck in normal use. Seven heights from 13 to 60 mm are set with one lever, and a low 13 mm setting suits fine lawns.

The Vari-Pitch system is said to clear clippings into the collector after cutting. A hose connector lets you wash the underside without tipping the mower.

Battery and what is missing

The 60V 6.0 Ah battery is part of Toro's Flex-Force system, so it moves across to compatible Toro 60V garden tools. The listing does not give a run time, a lawn area per charge or a grass box size. It also does not state the cutting width in figures beyond the model name, so check the Hayter specification if width matters to you.

Amazon lists the weight at 35 kg.

Harrier 41 or Harrier 48

The Harrier 48 AD has a wider 48 cm deck and a bigger 8.0 Ah battery, but weighs 42 kg. On a medium lawn, the lighter 41 is easier to turn and store. For a much smaller lawn, the Yard Force LM G37A offers a rear roller and two batteries in a far lighter push mower.

Verdict

Choose the Harrier 41 VS if you want a self-propelled roller mower with a durable aluminium deck for a medium lawn, and you value the striped finish. If your lawn is large, the Harrier 48 AD saves passes. If you only have a small patch to cut, the Yard Force LM G37A gives you a roller without the weight.
