The Goat O1000 LiDAR Pro takes a different route to wire-free mowing. It needs neither a boundary wire nor an RTK antenna, using a 360 degree dual lidar system to map the garden and hold position to within 2 cm. Ecovacs says that holds up under trees and next to fences where satellite mowers lose signal. Its slim body passes corridors as narrow as 0.8 m. It suits shaded, complicated plots, even small ones, where other robots struggle.
- Rated area
- About 1,000 m² (1/4 acre)
- Boundary
- Wire-free (lidar)
- Cutting width
- 22 cm
- Noise
- Not stated
In its favour
- Super-narrow body passes through corridors as slim as 0.8 m.
- No wire and no RTK antenna, according to the listing.
- Built-in edge trimmer reduces manual strimming.
Good to know
- Rated area is far beyond a small lawn, so you pay for capacity you may not use.
- No noise figure is stated in the listing, unlike the Gardena models.
Our take
Why lidar instead of satellites
RTK robots depend on a clear view of the sky. In a garden boxed in by houses, tall hedges or mature trees, that view is limited. Lidar measures distances to the surroundings with lasers, so it can position the mower from the garden itself. Ecovacs calls the system HoloScope and says it maps the yard automatically.
Edges and obstacles
A built-in TruEdge trimmer cuts along drives, paths, flower beds and irregular borders, so there is less strimming afterwards. Ecovacs is candid that complex corners, narrow gaps and raised edges may still need occasional trimming by hand. AI vision and 3D ToF lidar recognise more than 200 obstacle types, from toys and furniture to pets and small wildlife, with detection precision to 5 cm.
Setup and app
The Ecovacs app creates zones, schedules and no-go areas. The listing notes that initial setup may need some adjustments to suit unusual layouts, which is a fair warning for any mapped robot. Assembly is required. Cutting width is about 22 cm, height ranges from about 30 mm to 90 mm, and Amazon lists a 60 minute battery life. The listed weight is 20.9 kg, while the dimensions shown are clearly wrong.
Compared with the RTK Goat and others
The Ecovacs Goat O1000 RTK has the same rated area and a 45% slope figure, but relies on satellites. The LiDAR Pro gives no slope limit, so ask Ecovacs if your lawn is steep. The Bosch VisiMow 18V-100 is also wire-free but rated for only 100 m². The Worx Landroid Vision Cloud needs a data connection for cloud RTK, which can be patchy at the far end of a long garden.
Verdict
Pick the LiDAR Pro for a shaded or hemmed-in garden with narrow passages, where satellite navigation would be unreliable. If you have open sky and a slope, the Ecovacs Goat O1000 RTK states a 45% rating, and for a tiny lawn the Bosch VisiMow 18V-100 is a far smaller machine.
