Calculator
Lawn-area calculator
Split the lawn into simple shapes, measure each one in metres or feet and subtract beds, ponds or patios. The total is the figure to compare with a robot mower's rated maximum area.
In short
Rectangle = length x width, circle = pi x (diameter / 2)², right triangle = 0.5 x base x height. One square metre is 10.7639 sq ft. Choose a robot rated at least 20% above your lawn if it has zones, narrow passages or slopes.
Measure your lawn
- 96.0 m²
- minus 3.1 m²
Lawn area

1,000 sq ft
Robot area band
up to 600 m²
With zones, passages or slopes
rated 112 m² or more
A robot's rated maximum area assumes an open lawn and the maker's run hours. If your lawn is split into zones, has narrow passages or slopes, choose a model rated at least 20% above the measured area. Type decimals with a point, for example 7.5.
Robot mower area bands
Robot mowers are sold by the largest lawn they are rated for. Compare your measured area with these bands, then add a margin of at least 20% if the lawn has separate zones, narrow passages or slopes: the rated area assumes an open lawn and the maker's run hours.
| Measured lawn | Rated area to look for (plus 20%) |
|---|---|
| Up to 500 m² | 600 m² or more |
| 600 to 1,250 m² | Up to 1,500 m² |
| 1,250 to 2,500 m² | Up to 3,000 m² |
| Above 2,500 m² | Above 3,000 m² |
