Slope ratings on robot mowers are given as a percentage, not in degrees, and the two are easy to confuse. A 35% slope rises 35 cm for every metre across and is only about 19 degrees. A 45% slope is about 24 degrees, and 84% is about 40 degrees. Measure your steepest stretch, not the average, and leave some headroom because wet grass reduces grip. This guide ranks robots by the slope limit their makers state, then compares the drive type, how they navigate, their rated lawn area and cutting width. If your garden has a bank that rises sharply from a patio, the top two or three picks are the ones to look at. For gentle slopes, any model here will do.

The products in detail
No. 1 · ECOVACS
Ecovacs Goat O1000 RTK: 45% slope, IPX6
A wire-free robot that maps the lawn itself using RTK positioning backed by a 3D ToF sensor and a fisheye camera. Suits a typical suburban lawn with trees and borders.
In its favour
- The listing states an IPX6 rating and 2 cm positioning precision, with a camera and lidar to help under tree shade.
- TruEdge edge mowing follows borders closely, which the maker says cuts down on strimming afterwards.
- Climbs slopes up to 45% and fits through passages about 70 cm (2.3 ft) wide, according to the listing.
Good to know
- The listing uses US units and US style wording, so check the charger plug and UK support before ordering.
- It does not state noise level or run time per charge beyond a 60 minute battery figure.

No. 2 · Mammotion
Mammotion Yuka 1500: 45% slope, 32 cm cut
A wire-free robot with a wide 32 cm cut and a collector that sweeps leaves and clippings, then empties itself at a set spot. Suits larger lawns with trees.
In its favour
- A 320 mm dual disc cut is wider than most robots here, so it covers ground quickly.
- The maker says it can sweep leaves and small twigs and empty itself, useful in a UK autumn.
- Up to 10 mowing zones with passages and no-go areas can be set in the app.
Good to know
- At 15.6 kg and 64 x 52 cm it needs wider passages than slim robots.
- The listing does not say whether an RTK antenna has to be installed, so check setup needs with Mammotion.

No. 3 · Husqvarna
Husqvarna Automower 315: 40% slope, wire guided
A proven boundary wire Automower for medium to large lawns, with app control through Automower Connect and a weather timer that adapts mowing to grass growth.
In its favour
- Rated for lawns up to 1,500 m² and slopes up to 40%, a wide margin for most UK back gardens.
- The listing mentions a weather timer that changes cutting time with growth, so it mows less in dry spells.
- Anti-theft features are included, and Automower Connect lets you control it from your phone.
Good to know
- This listing is for a 2018 model, so newer Automowers may add features it lacks.
- The boundary wire has to be laid and pegged, which takes longer than an app-drawn map.

No. 4 · WORX
Worx Landroid Vision Cloud: 84% slope, 4WD
A four wheel drive wire-free Landroid using RTK from the cloud with no local antenna, built for steep and uneven gardens up to about half an acre.
In its favour
- Rated for slopes up to 84% (about 40 degrees), far beyond typical two wheel drive robots.
- RTK Cloud means no antenna to mount, and the maker says camera navigation takes over in shade.
- Find My Landroid GPS tracking with remote lock is included, according to the listing.
Good to know
- At 29 kg it is heavy to lift over steps or carry to storage for winter.
- The lowest cutting height is about 40 mm, higher than some robots, so it suits relaxed rather than very short lawns.

No. 5 · Husqvarna
Husqvarna Automower 430 V: 50% slope, no wire
A Husqvarna wire-free Automower with a virtual perimeter and a stated 50% maximum slope, for larger and steeper lawns where dealer backing matters.
In its favour
- The listing gives a 50% maximum slope inside the working area.
- Uses a virtual perimeter, so there is no boundary wire to lay or repair.
- Husqvarna lists spare part availability for five years.
Good to know
- The listing area figure looks wrong, so confirm the rated area with Husqvarna or a dealer.
- Very few specs are given, including cutting width and height.

- Everything needed for DIY installation, including boundary wire, comes in the box.
Good to know
- Bluetooth app control works only near the mower, so you cannot check it from work.
