Bosch's UniversalRotak 2x18V-37 uses two 18 V batteries together to give 36 V, driving a brushless motor across a 37 cm deck. Bosch rates it for medium to larger lawns up to 500 m². It suits a gardener already holding a couple of Bosch or Power for All 18 V packs, who wants more power than a single battery mower without stepping up to a heavy machine. Batteries and charger are not included.

In its favour

  • Brushless motor for performance and longer life, according to Bosch.
  • Ergoflex handles are designed to reduce effort and add control.
  • Runs on the widely shared 18 V Power for All battery system.

Good to know

  • Batteries and charger are not included and two are needed.
  • A 37 cm deck is narrow for a large lawn, so expect more passes.

Our take

Two batteries, one motor

Running two 18 V packs in series is the same approach Makita uses on the DLM462PT4, and it lets a mainstream tool battery drive a mower that would otherwise need a larger dedicated pack. You need two batteries on hand before the first cut. The listing does not say what capacity achieves the 500 m² rating, so it is worth checking Bosch's own figures for your packs. Smaller 2 Ah batteries will clearly cover less ground than larger ones.

Handling and weight

Amazon lists the weight at 12.4 kg, far lighter than the large garden mowers it is compared with. Ergoflex handles are described as giving less effort and more control. The packed dimensions are compact and assembly is required.

Height adjustment has eleven positions according to the specs, which gives fine control. The spec field lists the range as 25 to 70, which reads as millimetres despite the unit shown.

What is not stated

The listing does not give a grass box volume or say whether mulching is offered, and the warranty is listed as two years from the manufacturer. Wheel size is given as 10 cm, which is small and may be less forgiving on a bumpy lawn than the 18 cm wheels on the Greenworks 40V 41 cm.

Against the large garden picks

The Greenworks 40V 41 cm mower has the same 500 m² rating, a wider deck and includes batteries, so it is simpler for a newcomer. The Makita DLM462PT4 covers far more ground but weighs over three times as much. The Bosch's case is low weight and brushless 36 V power for owners whose batteries are already paid for.

Verdict

Buy the UniversalRotak 2x18V-37 if you have two 18 V Bosch or Power for All batteries and a lawn up to about 500 m², and you value a light mower. Anyone without batteries should look at the Greenworks 40V 41 cm mower, and lawns well beyond 500 m² call for the Makita DLM462PT4.
