The Ecovacs Goat O1000 RTK does away with the boundary wire that most robot mowers need. It maps the lawn itself using satellite RTK positioning, backed up by a solid-state lidar sensor and a fisheye camera for areas under trees. Ecovacs rates it for about a quarter acre, roughly 1,000 m². It suits a suburban garden with borders, trees and a few narrow links between lawn areas, owned by someone who would rather not bury a cable.

In its favour
- The listing states an IPX6 rating and 2 cm positioning precision, with a camera and lidar to help under tree shade.
- TruEdge edge mowing follows borders closely, which the maker says cuts down on strimming afterwards.
- Climbs slopes up to 45% and fits through passages about 70 cm (2.3 ft) wide, according to the listing.
Good to know
- The listing uses US units and US style wording, so check the charger plug and UK support before ordering.
- It does not state noise level or run time per charge beyond a 60 minute battery figure.
Our take
How the navigation works
RTK uses satellite signals corrected against a fixed reference to place the mower with very high accuracy, which the listing puts at 2 cm. It can receive up to 45 satellites across more signal bands. Satellite signals weaken under heavy tree cover, so Ecovacs adds the lidar and camera to keep the mower on track when the sky is blocked.
The listing does not explain what antenna or reference station you need to install, which is something to ask about before buying.
Mapping and the app
Ecovacs says the mower recognises and memorises boundaries during automated mapping. In the app, the map can be edited: add, merge, split or delete areas, draw paths between zones and set no-go areas. Each zone can have its own cutting speed, height, obstacle avoidance height and mowing direction. It mows in U-shaped paths, which the maker calls LELS navigation.
Obstacles, edges and terrain
AIVI 3D obstacle avoidance is designed to steer round animals and objects, and the listing specifically names hedgehogs and says it works at night. TruEdge edge mowing follows the boundary for a close cut. The body is about 40 cm wide and fits through passages around 70 cm. It is rated for slopes up to 45% and IPX6 water resistance. Cutting height spans about 30 to 80 mm over 11 positions, and Amazon lists the weight as 20.2 kg.
Against the alternatives
The Husqvarna Automower 315 covers more lawn but needs a boundary wire. The Worx Landroid Vision Cloud is also wire-free and handles much steeper slopes. The Goat's mix of satellite, lidar and camera is its main claim for shady gardens.
Verdict
Choose the Goat O1000 RTK for a lawn of up to about 1,000 m² with trees and borders, where avoiding a wire is the priority. Check the UK plug, support and antenna needs first, as the listing reads as US. For very steep ground, the Worx Landroid Vision Cloud is the better match, and the Husqvarna Automower 315 suits larger wired lawns.
