The Automower 315 is the traditional Husqvarna robot mower: a boundary wire defines the lawn, and the mower works within it on its own schedule. This listing is for the 2018 model, rated for lawns up to 1,500 m² and slopes up to 40%. It suits owners of a medium to large lawn who are happy with a wired installation in exchange for a well documented, established design with app control and anti-theft features.

In its favour
- Rated for lawns up to 1,500 m² and slopes up to 40%, a wide margin for most UK back gardens.
- The listing mentions a weather timer that changes cutting time with growth, so it mows less in dry spells.
- Anti-theft features are included, and Automower Connect lets you control it from your phone.
Good to know
- This listing is for a 2018 model, so newer Automowers may add features it lacks.
- The boundary wire has to be laid and pegged, which takes longer than an app-drawn map.
Our take
What the boundary wire means
Unlike the satellite guided robots in this comparison, the 315 relies on a cable laid around the lawn edge and round any beds or ponds you want it to avoid. Laying and pegging the wire is a one-off job, but it takes time, and the cable can be cut later by edging spades or a strimmer if you are not careful. Once installed, though, a wire does not depend on satellite reception, so tree cover and tall buildings are not an issue.
Scheduling and the weather timer
You can set fixed cutting times, or let the mower decide. Husqvarna's climate timer adjusts how long it mows to match how fast the grass is growing, so it does less in a dry July and more in a wet May. The listing says it is quiet enough to mow at night without disturbing anyone, which lets you keep the lawn free for the family during the day.
App control and security
The Automower Connect module lets you control and adjust the mower from a smartphone, including while you are at work or away on holiday. Anti-theft features are included, according to the title. Cutting height runs from 20 mm to 50 mm over five positions. The listing gives no cutting width, battery size or noise figure, so check those on Husqvarna's own pages.
Against the newer Husqvarna and the wire-free rivals
The Husqvarna Automower 430 V drops the wire in favour of a virtual perimeter and handles 50% slopes. The Mammotion Yuka 1500 matches the 1,500 m² rating without a wire and adds leaf sweeping. The 315's strengths are its long track record and that it needs no satellite signal, which still makes sense in a heavily shaded garden.
Verdict
Choose the Automower 315 if your lawn is up to 1,500 m² with moderate slopes and you are comfortable laying a boundary wire. If you want to avoid the cable, the Husqvarna Automower 430 V is the newer wire-free option, and the Mammotion Yuka 1500 adds autumn leaf sweeping to the same rated area.
